“Look! A dragon egg!” someone will exclaim as you walk through the woods. And suddenly, right in front of you, a gigantic egg, a dragon carved in wood, a shadow that seems to move among the trees.
You are in the Dragon Forest, the most beloved family-themed trail on the Latemar!
The Dragon Forest is located on the feet of Latemar, above Predazzo, in Val di Fiemme, in the Trentino Dolomites, a World Heritage Site.
It’s easy to reach with the cable car up to Gardonè (1650 m): from the village to the high alpine meadows in just a few minutes!
The Dragon Forest is a 1.4 km loop trail designed for families with children of all ages. The path is flat, accessible with strollers, and suitable for visitors with limited mobility.
It takes about one hour to complete, and you can walk it independently, without the need to be accompanied.
In the Dragon Forest, an egg unlike any the renowned Professor Nikolaus Drache has ever seen puts all his knowledge into question. What species could it be? Use your imagination to invent the dragon you want to see hatch, with the help of his fellow dragonologist, Zelda Reptilia.
“I heard it breathing! It’s a dragon!” someone else will swear. The Dragon Forest is often a child’s very first real mountain adventure. That’s why they usually never forget it.
Carved wood, the scent of moss, clues waiting to be decoded: children move closer, touch, smell, and search for tracks.
Before starting the walk, you can enrich the experience by choosing one of the gamebooks which include:
• a story
• a mission
• riddles and games
• illustrations
• observation challenges
• a final prize
You can find them:
• at the Gardonè Info Point
The family becomes a team: someone reads, someone draws, someone solves puzzles… but make sure someone keeps an eye out—just in case a dragon pops up behind you!
On Sundays and Mondays, you can meet Professor Nikolaus Drache, the greatest expert in dragonology, who will guide you through the Dragon Forest, turning the trail into a real live storytelling experience.
